Machhindra on pick

KATHMANDU: ‘A’ Division outfit NMB Machhindra Football Club came from behind to hammer Arambagh KS of Bangladesh 4-1 in their second Group ‘A’ match of the Kings Cup in Thimpu on Saturday. Arambagh took a ninth minute lead through Akbar Hossen before Ranjit Hamal's penalty opened the floodgates for Machhindra. Karna Limbu -- who had won the penalty -- put Machhindra ahead before Bishal Rai and Olawale Oladipo Afeez struck twice in quick succession. Machhindra jumped to the top of the table with four points replacing Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club, who have three points with one match in hand. Machhindra will now play local side Yedzin FC in their next match on Wednesday.

SVI through to finals 

KATHMANDU: Siddhartha Vanasthali Institute (SVI) have qualified for the Coca-Cola Cup Inter-school National Football Tournament Finals from the boys’ section Group ‘A’ Qualifiers here on Saturday. SVI defeated Creative Learners Academy 2-1 on goals from Mohan Gurung (14) and Ashish Lama (43). Ravi Shrestha replied one for Creative. Meanwhile, Daffodil Public School edged Adarsha High School 6-5 in penalty shootout and Himchuli Rajan Memorial School beat Jeevan Tara Academy 4-3 in tie-breaker. Meanwhile, Shree High School beat Mahindra School 2-0 and Kalika School Shuva Lal 2-1 in Rautahat.

Kamal claims title 

BHAKTAPUR: Kamal Kumpakh won the first Districtwide Amateur Blitz Chess Tournament with four points here on Saturday. Nirmal Napit, Nhuchhe Ram Ranjit, Bijay Jati and Dinesh Suwal rounded up in the top five finishes respectively in tie-break system after all four players were tied on 3.5 points each.
